Beginners
Start your beekeeping journey with basics and safety tips.Join our beginner course to start your beekeeping journey with expert guidance.
This 3 hour course runs from 10.00am to 1pm and is for those who just want to find out more about this fascinating insect .
During this experience we will tell you about bees, how they live, breed and the threats they face while you are sitting in comfortable chairs with tea or coffee and cake.
We will then take you out to handle live bees and show you how Beekeepers manage their bees to protect our bee population.
Gain practical skills in a supportive, family-run environment at Forder Gardens.
Hands-on Experience Provided
A BeeKeeping Refresher-Plus – £45 (5 people maximum)
This add-on 3 hour course also runs from 10am to 1pm. This course is for people who have decided to keep bees and are ready to start .This course adds on to the knowledge obtained in the BeeKeeping Experience and is intended to be an addition and not a stand alone course
The course includes :
Equipment - what is available , what you need, which type of equipment suits your needs best, where to get it and what not to get.
Bees – where to get them from, where not to get them from.
Diseases – What to look out for, how to treat and what to use.
Seasonal management.
Hands-on Experience Provided
Things you need to bring
Wellington Boots.
A long sleeve sweatshirt or jumper , trousers. (If it is hot, dress for the weather but bring these with you)

Who can join?
Anyone interested in beekeeping, from complete beginners to those with some experience.
What should I bring?
Wear welliington boots for when out at a hive and weather-appropriate clothing; we provide all beekeeping gear and protective suits.
Are children allowed?
Children over 12 are welcome if accompanied by an adult; our courses are hands-on but safety is our priority.
Where are courses held?
All sessions take place on our family-run smallholding in Dartmoor National Park.
How long is each course?
Courses typically last 3 hours including breaks and hands-on activities.
